Interim Report:Gym Period 3 -Day One- Active Learning Reflection

My Own Thoughts:

Since this is a linear coarse, we haven't had a lot of gym classes together, however we have had enough classes for the teacher to have an idea of what kind of students we are. For my work habits mark, a fair assessment for myself would be a G. I think I deserve a G because I have showed my preparedness for the class by always having my gym strip and changing in to it before the class starts. I am good with punctuality as I am never late and I have not missed one class yet; I attend class regularly. I cooperate with everyone in our class and I always have a positive attitude, I don't whine or complain when we have to play a sport that I may not enjoy as much as the others. Even if I don't enjoy the sport I'm playing, I still participate in it and try my best to make it fun for the people who do enjoy the activity, because I would want them to do the same for me. In the beginning of class before we do fitness, I always actively listen to Mr. Neufeld when he tells us what the main purpose of the class is and what we should be doing during the class in order to make it successful. By doing that, it shows my respect towards my learning. On fitness days, I push myself a lot and I am mentally strong to motivate myself to keep on going even if I'm tired or even if my body is starting to ache. For example, we when did the pond run I made sure I ran for the full minute. In addition, when we did the beep test this week I pushed myself to not stop and to run one more way across. Both these examples lead to the success of the class and it leads to the happiness of Mr. Neufeld because he will be proud. I demonstrate a healthy lifestyle by eating the right kind of foods and by exercising daily as shown in my blog. I create a safe environment for my peers by not performing an activity or using equipment without the teacher's instructions. I update my blog on a daily basis and I write some kind of write up for every single gym class. I make myself personal goals that I hope to achieve, which is a very important part of gym class. So each day when I walk into the gym, I know what I'm aiming for. Therefore, I think I deserve a G.

Questions:

During PE this year, how have you shown you are prepared and willing to participate
in a variety of activities?  On what days have you participated to your best effort and
why?  What days have been a struggle for you and why?

During PE this year I have greatly shown my preparedness, as mentioned above. I  am always here on time which show that I'm responsible and I never forget my gym strip for class. By doing those two things, it shows that I am ready to participate. You can always rely on me because I have built my own reputation from September to now, by showing everybody how I am always coming to class. Not only do I come to class, but I come with a positive outlook toward the Active Learning Department. Coming to class is one thing and your attitude in the class is a whole other thing. I am willing to participate in anything the teacher wants us to do. If I feel uncomfortable performing the sport or activity, I still do it because that's the only way you're going to make the class a fun place and that's the only way you will discover new interests and hobbies. The days I participate to my best effort would be fitness days, however I participate to my best effort in every single class even if it's not fitness. I absolutely know that I participate to my best effort on fitness days because that's the day when the the teachers give us a lot of encouragement and support to push ourselves. So their words of encouragement truly do help and give me the confidence to go out there and work hard. The days that have been a struggle would be fitness days, such as when we do the beep tests. These are the days that I work the hardest, due to the amount of motivation needed in order to get a high score. These days are a struggle for me, however I always find a way to persevere through it and make my gym block successful.

How do you contribute to the overall success of the class?  What kind of attitude do
you bring and why?  How do you interact with other students in our class?

In every single gym class, I contribute in some shape and form to the overall success of the class. It may not be very noticeable to my other peers, however it does make a difference. My positivity and my smile makes the class a more welcoming environment.  During gym class, I laugh a lot even at the little things. I contribute by participating in the activity or sport because if you don't participate, you're letting your whole team down when you're playing a sport with your own team. As mentioned, I always bring a very positive attitude because that's the only way gym is going to be fun. You will have more fun at school if you wake up in the morning with a positive attitude. When I first came in to the class in September, I was really quiet because I did not have a solid relationship with anybody in the class. I did not take band last year so it was my first time bonding with the band students. I have made some new friends so far and I have opened up to them as well. At first when you  meet me, I am quiet but as we continue to talk and get to know each other better, I am a completely different person and I talk way more too! I met Pallvi this year in gym and she is a really great friend to me because she was one of the people who was willing to form a friendship with me, along with some others. Overall, I am able to cooperate with all the students in the class and I hope to meet new people and build new friendships with them as well!

Describe your participation during fitness days - have you been able to push yourself
physically?  What types of fitness activities do you enjoy the most?  What fitness
goals do you have for the rest of the year?

On fitness days, I can absolutely push myself physically to keep on going. My goal for each fitness day is to get a good work out, in order to make my body stronger. I really enjoy doing the loco motion. We have not had a chance to do the loco motion this year, yet from my experience last year, I enjoy it because you are able to do a variety of activities instead of just running back and forth like you do in the beep test. I also enjoy doing the beep test because it allows me to have a chance to improve my score and to make my teacher proud. My fitness goals are to always improve each time we do the beep test in the year. I want to get a score of 9.5 by June.  I have set this as my goal because I know I have the confidence and motivation in myself to achieve it. A goal that I made in the beginning of the year was to have better pacing when doing the community run and I have achieved this goal so far. When we did the community run I focused on my pacing and I was able to spread my energy throughout the jog instead of wasting all my energy in the first ten minutes. This will still be a goal of mine as I will continue to focus on that whenever we do long distance runs. I personally enjoy fitness days better than regular days because fitness days are the days when I have an opportunity to set an important goal for myself and to get a really good workout.

What does "leadership" mean to you?  Who are the best leaders in our class - why?

Leadership is key in gym class as it is a skill that you will need in your everyday life outside of school. Leaders aren't always the people who just have a loud voice and are able to shout out loud and command everyone what to do. Leaders are the people who take initiative and volunteer to help organize games in gym class and who are a great influence to the class. Leaders are also the people who do very well in PE by improving every time and by pushing themselves. So the word leadership to me is the process of taking charge and being able to organize activities themselves. I have taken leadership in the class by not running to the change rooms as soon as we are done for the day; I wait a couple of minutes and help put the equipment away or watch someone else how to correctly put it away so I know for next time. I cannot pinpoint out certain people in the class who are leaders, but many people in the class do show traits of being a leader. In order to be a leader you have to be able to take initiative/be a role model, and push youself to strive for success. I think I need to improve in this category a little bit by being more outgoing to the class and help out more when organizing activities. I am able to push myself which shows the other students that I am mentally strong however I need to improve on the other part of being a leader which is to be a bit more outgoing and loud.

What improvements would you like to make in PE by the end of the year?  What are
you the most proud of so far?

The improvements I would like to make in PE this year is to be more outgoing by showing my leadership more and to keep on improving on my beep test scores each time. I am most proud of the fact that I improved my beep test score from last time. I know I can get an even higher score but I am jubilant that I had the strength in myself to get better.

Finally, what letter grade A, B, C+, C, C- (gulp) best represents the effort you just described?

As described in the first paragraph, I think I deserve a G and an A for a letter grade. I think I deserve an A because I am always putting all my effort in everything we do. I have a positive attitude, push myself, set realistic goals for myself, create a safe environment for everyone and  exercise at home too, not just at school. To summarize,  I am enjoying gym class so far and I can't wait to see what my achievements will be at the end of the year in June.

  1. This is such a great blog post! I am encouraged to hear you say you like to push yourself at fitness days. There have been a few times where I felt like you were "hiding" in the back some, so I would love to get a heart rate monitor going so you can learn about yourself, and demonstrate to our class what maximum effort looks like! :) Keep up the blogging.

    1. I can see how in a big class I sometimes may seem to be in the background, but I always am involved in what's happening in the class. I think the heart rate monitor is a great idea! :)
